Bachelor package: Mathematical Foundations

A package is similar to a minor in that it offers a selected set of courses connected to the same theme/ topic. Unlike a minor, however, a package provides greater flexibility in terms of the total number of ECTS credits and the number of mandatory courses. Despite the use of the term “mandatory courses” below, you are not required to take all courses within the package. Instead, the package is designed to help you explore a topic in greater depth while allowing you to choose a combination of electives that best fits your interests and study program.

Following this package, you will develop the ability to reason rigorously through mathematical proofs. Your choice of mathematics courses depends on the prior knowledge you have acquired in your own degree programme: for students who have taken few mathematics courses at university level, the first-year courses are a good place to start. There, you will learn the essential concepts and techniques of mathematical proofs, calculus, linear algebra, analysis or probability theory, which form the backbone of modern quantitative fields such as AI, data science, physics, economics, and engineering. While each course is valuable in its own right, together they form a comprehensive mathematical foundation.

For students with a background in technical mathematics or physics who are interested in fundamental mathematics, level 2 or 3 courses in topology, algebra, and geometry offer valuable further study in theoretical mathematics.

Please note that the mathematics courses starting from Block 2 require prior knowledge acquired in earlier mathematics courses.
