Creative Perspectives on Diversity & Inclusion

MINESHCC-8Taal en cultuur

Ready to address contemporary issues relating to diversity and inclusion in interdisciplinary and creative ways? Lectures and seminars will address diversity and inclusion from social, cultural, historical, and legal perspectives. Workshops will provide students with opportunities to develop their communication and to explore the possibilities to tackle these important issues in our world today using creative and performing arts. The minor will culminate in a final exhibition, in which students will perform their own creative pieces.
The minor is open to all students at Erasmus University, Leiden University and TU Delft and also to students of Codarts and Willem de Kooning Academy.

This unique minor will explore diversity and inclusion in interdisciplinary perspective, bringing academic research on social, cultural, historical, and legal perspectives together with academic and practitioner expertise from the creative and performing arts. We take our inspiration from the city of Rotterdam, stimulating our students to understand the challenges of diversity and inclusion today while drawing on the city’s rich cultural heritage to explore the possibilities to create new futures. As such, in this minor you will experience learning both in the classroom, as well as on location, such as at the Museum Boijmans-Van Beuningen.
Throughout this minor we will use the work of Oscar Wilde as a starting point to explore themes of diversity and inclusion using academic perspectives from the humanities, social sciences, and law and as a catalyst for students to develop their own creative responses to these issues today. Different aspects of diversity and inclusion will be approached in an innovative and Erasmian way.Through exploring the creative and performing arts, students will develop skills which are highly valued in many professional careers after graduation. They will gain valuable experience in concept development, collaboration, presentation, and performance, skills which complement the academic knowledge gained in this minor and in their other studies. The assessment for this minor therefore includes both academic skills (written assignments such as the essay and final paper), presentation skills (elevator pitch presentation), performance (final exhibition*), and reflection.
