Over deze cursus
The focus in this course is on providing engineers with a comprehensive introduction into psychology. You will learn how to apply psychological theories to understand how people interact with technologies, and how technology can influence human behavior. The lectures in the course provide an introduction in the basic principles of psychological methods and theories. The core topics include: psychological methods, biological psychology, consciousness, perception, learning, thinking, memory, emotions, motivation, and social psychology. The lectures will illustrate how psychology and technology interact.
Weekly assignments will complement the lectures. Students will experience basic effects from psychological research by participating in replications of classic experiments, reflect upon the underlying psychological processes, write a Wikipedia style article related to the content of the course, and apply these theoretical insights to areas such as interface and software design, sentiment analysis of big data, and e-coaching.

After completing this course, students should be able to:
- Recognize and explain key principles and themes of modern psychology.
- Apply psychological insights to issues in human-technology interaction.
- Demonstrate basic understanding and experience with scientific methods in behavioural research.
