Sustainable supply chains & services

Over deze cursus

Being a CBL course, the Sustainable Supply Chains course includes a variety of materials and learning methods to engage students and facilitate their understanding of complex sustainability issues within supply chains. It is worth mentioning that this course contains no lectures. Instead, we have presentations (by lecturers, guests, and students) in a ``topic-on-demand'' mechanism. Here is the list of materials and methods:

  • Introductory presentation – Since students come from different disciplines and may have different pre-knowledge on the principles of the course (e.g., CBL, supply chain management, sustainability, etc.), the first day of the course is assigned to level-up students into the same level of understanding of the principles.
  • Guest presentations – Several guest speakers from industry and academia are invited to provide students with insights into current trends, best practices, and sustainable supply chain management challenges. Guest presentations offer diverse perspectives and real-world expertise that enrich the learning experience. Each of these presentations has been (purposefully) designed in a way that not only gets students familiar with ongoing practices but also implicitly introduces to students the techniques and tools to address sustainability issues in supply chains.
  • Student in-class presentations – During the course, students are asked to give a presentation on a topic of their choice but within a given theme (Every day of the course is dedicated to a specific theme related to sustainable supply chain, e.g., life cycle assessment, circular economy, carbon footprint, etc.).
  • Real-world challenges – As the core of the course, students work on a real-world challenge related to sustainability given by industries or academic colleagues. Groups of students are assigned to these challenges, and they work collaboratively on the challenges to apply their knowledge and skills to develop solutions that address sustainability issues within supply chains.
  • Interactive discussions and debates – Students are encouraged to interactively discuss and ask questions at every course session and DURING every presentation (guests or students). This interactive discussion is to encourage active participation and collaboration among students. Engaging in dialogue allows students to explore different perspectives, challenge assumptions, and develop communication skills.
