Electronics for Robotics

ET-MI-201

Over deze minor

This minor offers you a wide range of courses and an integrating project, enabling you to build up insight and develop knowledge and skills in the main fields of Electrical Engineering (EE): circuits, digital systems, electromagnetism  and signal processing.  The final integrating project  is on a simple vehicle that is driven by several electric stepper motors which are controlled by an onboard FPGA and needs to perform autonomously a predefined task.

Leerresultaten

The student will gain insight in the basic concepts of:

  • linear electrical circuits and components,
  • signal processing for telecommunications,
  • electromagnetism and describe the properties of electromagnetic waves
  • define the antenna and transmission lines characteristic parameters
  • systematic way to design a negative feedback amplifier with an operational amplifier used as controller.
  • Hardware description language VHDL to programme configurable logic blocks, the so called Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs).

Goed om te weten

Registration for this thematic minor is on a first-come, first-served basis and available places. (No lottery draw).

The minor, as such, does not offer direct access to EE MSc programmes, and is of special interest to students in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science and Nanobiology. It is not a course on robotics, it offers insight in basic fields of EE that will be applicable in the field of robotics.

Basic BSc-level knowledge on:

  1. Integral transforms, in particular the Fourier Transform.
  2. Discrete signal processing, in particular the discrete Fourier Transform.
  3. Complex analysis, in particular properties and manipulation of complex numbers.
  4. Linear algebra and vector calculus. In particular linear systems of equations and matrix-vector operations.
