Over deze minor
The minor MedTech-Based Entrepreneurship (MTBE) minor provides insights into the process of technology-based new venture creation, from both a theoretical and practical point of view. MTBE is offered by the Delft Center for Entrepreneurship (DCE) in collaboration with Industrial Design Faculty (Applied Ergonomics and Design-Medical Design Group), TBM (Department of Safety and Security). It is open to all third year bachelor students and is designed to provide students with an understanding of the process of technology-based new venture creation, from both a theoretical and practical point of view. The program is composed of several courses that aim to provide basic knowledge of and skills in entrepreneurship in general and entrepreneurship with a medical technology or product in particular.
The courses that belong to this minor aim to provide basic knowledge of and skills in entrepreneurship in general and entrepreneurship with a medical technology or product in particular. Each course highlights part of the entrepreneurial process and / or specifically addresses the medical context. The integration project course focuses on building capacity for discovering and evaluating entrepreneurial opportunities through a fictional start-up project. (To illustrate, students develop their product in the medical design course, they work on their fictional business’s finance in the finance course and develop a marketing plan in the marketing course, make a business plan and a business pitch in integration course)
At the end of the minor, students have acquired basic knowledge of innovation and the entrepreneurial process within a medical context, the design process, the requirements for certification and standardisation of medical products, healthcare financing, start-up financing, fundraising strategies, financial management of a company, and marketing & sales of a medical product.

In summary, after completing the minor the students have acquired basic knowledge of:
- innovation and the entrepreneurial process within a medical context;
- the design process including the medical users (patient-centered design);
- the requirements for certification and standardization of medical products;
- healthcare financing, the economy and management of care sector (hospitals and care centers);
- start-up financing, fundraising strategies and financial management of a company
- marketing & sales of a medical product.

Registration for this thematic minor is on a first-come, first-served basis and available places. (No lottery draw).
We are open to all third year bachelor students (with an entrepreneurial mindset) from all faculties of TU Delft, Leiden and Erasmus Universities.
We also have growing number of medical students in our minor program.
