Over deze minor

Journalism is a means to help the coherence of civil society and lubricate democratic processes. In a world fraught with conflict and fake news, the journalistic watchdog, in its ever-evolving form, has never been more important. This minor is built on three pillars, i.e., journalism theory, journalism practice and new and emerging media. In this programme, students will focus on the theories and concepts of journalism studies as well as their application in the media, through a wide variety of genres, formats, and platforms across communities and the world. By combining several core courses - including an introduction to journalism theory and seminars focusing on journalistic writing, video and audio production - with selected semester-long electives and block-long electives, this minor invites students to explore the intricate and challenging world of news media from the producer, consumer, and analyst perspectives. Next to larger group lectures, the more practical subjects will be covered in smaller groups so staff can optimally follow up on the individual student's production process. After completing this unique, journalism-centred programme, students will be able to critically analyse and produce various journalistic products. Moreover, with the acquired analytical and practical skills, students will be better equipped to either continue academic schooling or enter the job market.
