About this course

Did you know that the persisting growth of tourism has effects on the social and natural environment? In this online course, you will use scientific approaches to make sense of tourism phenomena in terms of their relations to space, place and environment. Through knowledge clips, peer discussions and weekly reflections, you will discover that tourism is more than just a powerful and positive economic force. Based on weekly reflection exercises, you will have the freedom to choose your own case study and shape your argument based on your interests and/or local context. By the end of the course, you will be able to critically analyse tourism as a global system, understand its societal and ecological consequences, and apply key geographic concepts to assess tourism's sustainable potential.
