About this minor
The minor Timeless Typologies will focus on studying and modelling historical architectural precedents. The chosen theme will be represented by a series of case study projects, regarded as influential in the architectural field. Students will be lectured and guided in studying and researching the historical context, spatial lay-out and technical aspects of these projects. Through this analysis of the case study projects students will come to a deeper understanding of the building and the ideology and typology at the root of the design. The resulting understanding of historical, spatial, and technical values of the architectural precedents will help students to relate to present architectural practice. Existing documentation will be used, digitalised, and completed. This will accumulate in the making of physical models. This is based on the principle that understanding can only be achieved by remodelling and rebuilding.
