About this minor
During this minor, students will develop understanding of various types of visual representations to depict actual places and imagined architectural designs. Through a sequence of practical exercises, students develop skills to produce and present evocative and relevant imagery to convey the lived, embodied experience of architectural case study projects.
Learning outcomes
During the second quarter of the first semester, three successive courses for a total of 15 ECTS, make up the minor Architectural Presentations. Throughout these courses students explore representation techniques in 2D, 3D and 4D, to communicate architectural projects as they are lived in, moved through and experienced.
The first section of the module explores the drawing as an image telling a story and conveying an atmosphere. Students will produce a scenic drawing considering characters, time and surroundings for an existing architectural project. A coherent composition is created by stitching together various architectural drawings and perspectives.
In the second section of the minor students focus on the material, structural and evocative qualities of the physical model. Working on large scale models, students are translating the case studies into models to communicate the character of the design idea in 3D.
In the final and largest part of the minor time and thus, movement and change are added as a layer of presentation in the production of a moving image. Using and transforming the drawings and models, the production of a short film forces students to think of the case study projects in architectural qualities, sequence and atmosphere.
