About this course

Educational Sciences 1 deals with basic knowledge in the field of teaching and learning. The course contributes to the formation of the students’ own vision on education.

The following topics will be discusses:

  • Classroom management
  • Interpersonal teacher behaviour
  • Learning theories
  • Motivation
  • Learning activities
  • Regulation of learning
  • Students’ social development (including bullying)

Learning outcomes

Educational Sciences 1 focuses on learning and teaching, which is seen as the regulation of learning processes. Students will get familiar with theories on teaching and learning, and will develop a reflective attitude regarding these theories.Learning goals are:

  • Being able to explain basic theories (see below) from educational literature.

  • Analyzing concrete lesson situations based on these basic theories:

  • Classroom management

  • Interpersonal teacher behavior

  • Learning theories

  • Motivation

  • Learning activities

  • Regulation of learning

  • Students’ social development (including bullying)

  • Being able to formulate concrete recommendation for others, and for themselves, based on the basic theories

  • Developing a vision on the own role as a teacher in students’ learning processes, including the pedagogical task the teacher and school have in society.
