Environmental Economics in Practice

Over deze cursus

This course prepares BSc students for a BSc thesis at the ENR group. Students are introduced to the core themes of the ENR group: climate change, social-ecological systems, and environmental-economic behavioural choices. Each theme is dealt with in lectures on the economic theory of the topic and in tutorials or computer practical to practice a quantitative analysis tool for this topic, such as bioeconomic models, statistical analysis, or cost-benefit analysis. In addition students write a literature review on a topic of their own choice, which may or may not be related to any of the three core themes of ENR.

Leerresultaten

  • Explain for the core ENR themes what economic mechanisms underlie these problems and how they might be analysed

  • Apply basic quantitative economic analysis tools to analyse environmental problems

  • Write a literature review on an environmental-economic topic of their own choice

  • Explain the different steps in a cost-benefit analysis and its role in the process of environmental policy-making

Bronnen

  • Literature for this course will consist of selected reports and scientific articles on the topics selected for the course. The literature, or the references to the literature, will be provided through Brightspace.
