Over deze cursus

With the exponential growth of technology, it is crucial that you learn to deal with uncertainty and to operate outside the traditional framework of problem-solving for the unknown challenges of tomorrow.

Students from all Master programmes can choose this Challenge-Based Learning course for their elective space. You do not necessarily need to have creative or artistic skills.
The aim of this course is for you to:

  • reflect on your competencies & set your own learning goals
  • learn to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team with various stakeholders
  • create your own learning path for personal & professional development
  • learn abstract, speculative & ‘moonshot’ thinking
  • remain radically open-minded & learn to deal with uncertainty
  • combine academic & artistic research with explorative prototyping

In practice
At the start of the course, you choose one of the open-ended challenges brought in by an artist/designer, or a stakeholder such as a museum, festival or theatre. After forming an interdiciplinary team, you will brainstorm, tinker, research, prototype and shape the desired goal of your project, while also considering your own learning goals. The artists and designers involved will guide you in using new (practical) approaches and methods to generate innovative ideas.
There's a lot of learning opportunities with guest lecturers, workshops, and visits, to tailor your optimal learning path.
The results will be presented at the Final Presentations, a festive event at De Zwarte Doos theatre. Several projects from previous semesters have also resulted in exhibitions (Dutch Design Week, NEMO Science Museum, AI Summit Brainport) and/or internships.
You can tap into the existing Art & Tech community, where you can easily connect with (and learn from) artists/designers and other professionals, challenge partners, scientists, research institutes, alumni of the program, or student teams.
