Over deze minor

Journalism plays a crucial role in maintaining the coherence of civil society and facilitating democratic processes. In a world increasingly shaped by conflict and misinformation, the role of journalism as a watchdog—constantly evolving to meet new challenges—has never been more vital. This minor is built on three key pillars: journalism theory, journalistic practice, and new and emerging media. Throughout the programme, students will engage with foundational theories and concepts of journalism studies while applying them across a variety of media genres, formats, and platforms, both locally and globally.

The curriculum combines several core courses—including an introduction to journalism theory and practical seminars on journalistic writing, video, and audio production—with a selection of semester-long and intensive block electives. This structure allows students to explore the complex and rapidly evolving world of news media from multiple perspectives: as producers, consumers, and analysts. While large group lectures cover theoretical frameworks, more practice-oriented subjects are taught in smaller groups, ensuring that instructors can provide tailored guidance and support throughout the production process.

Upon completing this journalism-focused programme, students will be equipped with both critical analytical skills and hands-on experience in producing various journalistic formats. These competencies will prepare them to pursue further academic studies or confidently step into the professional media landscape.
