Leadership of innovation and change

1JM60

Over deze cursus

In this course, students will develop a thorough understanding of how leadership and management practices impact human functioning and change processes in complex, fast-paced, and technologically advanced environments. We will highlight recent developments (e.g., speeding up innovation, collaborative innovation, AI-supported innovation, sustainable transitions) that call for careful guidance and effective management of individuals and teams operating in innovative environments. The students will conduct scientific research to examine leadership and management practices in relation to innovation outcomes in real-world teams, based upon which they will formulate recommendations for organizing and supporting innovation and change processes.

Besides a live introductory lecture, the program consists of online modules, each with a set of required readings and accompanying online micro-lectures. Moreover, there will be on-campus seminars in which we will review and discuss a variety of (real-world) case examples to facilitate further processing of the study material and apply the obtained theoretical knowledge to practice.

Finally, the group assignment involves a research project in which students offer managerial advice regarding the abovementioned issues based on empirical research with quantitative (survey) data.

Topics covered in the modules:

  • Leadership challenges for the 21st century
  • Creativity and innovation in individuals and teams
  • Leading high-speed innovation
  • Leading collaborative innovation
  • Leading AI-supported innovation
  • Leading sustainable transitions
