About this course
- The course is centered on a case of a manufacturing company which is extensive and complicated and which describes the production and supply chain situation of the company. Students are expected to design and implement a complete logistics control structure for this company, which meets the various operational objectives that the company has, usually expressed in cost and service level.
- Topics in this course are:
- positioning of decoupling points in the process flow
- the specification of production units, operational characteristics of production units that.
- control of capacity (regular capacity, contingent capacity, outsourcing) as of function of costs, lead times and demand information
- the control of materials acquisition and processing activities as a function of costs, lead times and demand information,
- the operational coordination of the decision functions in the control structure
- the structural coordination of the decision functions in the control structure
Learning outcomes
After this course, students are able to
- explain in their own words, in a concise manner, the basic elements of a conceptual design of a production and supply planning and control system.
- make a conceptual design of a production and supply planning and control system for a complex, near-real-life problem situation.
- make a detailed design of a production and supply planning and control system, and implement this design in a working software prototype that can be tested in a simulated environment.
- develop, provide and formulate well-rounded arguments for the design choices that they have made throughout the process.
