About this course

Following Behavioral Research Methods 1: Designing research (0HV00), 0HV70 provides advanced training in qualitative research, emphasizing data collection through observation in naturalistic and lab settings. Students undertake multiple research projects in groups, learning to code and analyze qualitative data while developing skills in data interpretation and reporting. These techniques complement the quantitative analysis skills introduced in the course Behavioral Research Methods 2: Dealing with data (0HV50).

Learning outcomes

After completing this course, students should be able to:

  • Explain the empirical cycle as it applies to qualitative research.
  • Categorize and code observational data in communication and behaviour studies.
  • Design and report qualitative research, including comprehensive research reports.
  • Plan, prioritize, and track project tasks within a team setting.
  • Reflect on organizational and project management skills for continuous improvement.
