About this course

On the one hand the lecture series will explain the principles underlying the following medical imaging techniques: (a) ultrasound, (b) radiography; (c) computed tomography; (d) nuclear imaging (scintigraphy, SPECT, PET); (e) radiotherapy, (f) magnetic resonance imaging. In addition, the following image analysis concepts will be introduced: filtering techniques (e.g., for noise removal); enhancement procedures (e.g., to enhance edges in an image); morphological operations; and segmentation techniques. These operations allow us to extract information at a higher level, for example, objects. After that we can make measurements from the images, such as the size of an organ or the dimensions of the lumen of a blood vessel.
