Multi-echelon inventory management

1CM100

About this course

This course will provide an in-depth study of classical models for supply chain management and their extensions. We will study both deterministic and stochastic inventory models, with more emphasis on the latter. Many of the topics we will cover are of great interest to managers. While our focus will be on theory, we will also discuss the practical relevance of theoretical foundations. The course consists of class meetings and additional homework assignments. We will cover topics such as:

  • Analysis of serial supply chains
  • Analysis of distribution systems
  • Analysis of assembly systems
  • Transshipments
  • Multi-item multi-location service supply chain

Learning outcomes

After this course, students are able to:

  • Describe and analyze the basic supply chain structures
  • Evaluate a given inventory policy for the basic supply chains
  • Explain the complexity of inventory optimization of the general supply chains
  • Apply well-known heuristics for inventory optimization in supply chains
  • Interpret and formulate various managerial insights related to inventory control in supply chains
  • Design service supply chain optimization methods.
  • Analyze and optimize multi-location multi-item spare parts inventory networks
