Sustainable innovation: integration project

The major “Sustainable Innovation” is a multi-disciplinary major building upon technical, economic and social science knowledge. Previous courses have elaborated on each of these aspects, but in this course, students are challenged to analyze real-life cases in an interdisciplinary way. Students work on societal, economic, and technical aspects of a real-life case that contributes to sustainability. Students work in groups and engage with the case owner/client. Working together in multidisciplinary teams is an important practical skill students will need in their professional career. This course works with the agile/scrum approach to develop collaboration, reflection and project management skills. Students need to apply what they learned in previous courses, and self-study relevant material for their case. Students work in groups to design a research framework and carry out data collection and analysis. Based on this, they develop and present recommendations for the real-life case in a scientifically sound and convincing way.

Cases will be provided by the lecturers. Student groups will be supervised by a tutor. The project will end with a final presentation and a final report.

Student groups are capable under supervision to:

• Use technical, economic and social science knowledge in an integrated way
• Apply integrated analyses to real-life cases related to sustainability
• Design a research framework and carry out data collection and analysis in a group setting
• Develop and present recommendations in a scientifically sound and convincing way
• Critically reflect on their collaboration skills and their engagement with the scrum/agile approach
