Over deze cursus
This course brings together all three disciplines that contribute to the PPE Minor: philosophy, history, and economics.
The overarching topic of this course is the idea of PPE itself. In addition to learning about some of the main ideas (e.g. about markets and how to study them) that have been proposed by scholars of the various disciplines that make up PPE, students will reflect on the extent to which - despite coming from different disciplines - these ideas are all contributions to the one and the same, ongoing conversation.
Leerresultaten
At the end of this course, students will...
- be familiar with some of the main ideas (e.g. about the nature of markets and how to study them, how to understand individual behaviour, and how to design policies and institutions) that have been proposed at the intersection of philosophy, politics and economics;
- be able to apply these ideas to specific socio-economic and political contexts;
- understand (and be able to explain) the relations between these ideas, in a way that does justice to the distinctness of the PPE disciplines on the one hand, and to their natural interconnectedness on the other hand;
- be able to explain the use of research and policy-design that takes all of the various perspectives that make up PPE into account.
